SUMMARY:Tea & Talk Series: Wings of Change - The Women Airforce Service Pilots
DESCRIPTION:***THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT – CALL 419-352-0967 TO BE PUT ON THE WAIT LIST*** \n  \n“Wings of Change: The Women Airforce Service Pilots” \nWhen the U.S. Air Force announced in the 1970s that it would accept women for pilot training for the “first time\,” history enthusiasts and advocates quickly rallied to recognize the pioneering Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II. These courageous women were the first to ferry military aircraft\, flying everything from trainers to bombers\, all while proving that women could master “the Army way” of flying just as skillfully as their male counterparts. \nThis presentation takes you on an inspiring journey through the history of the WASPs—their rigorous training\, vital contributions to the war effort\, and the obstacles they faced in a military system that wasn’t ready to accept them. You’ll hear stories of their resilience\, determination\, and the lasting impact they had on future generations of female aviators. Complete with historical photos\, compelling firsthand accounts\, and a rare look at the flight gear they wore—including an authentic WWII flight mechanic’s “zoot suit”—this presentation brings to life the extraordinary women who insisted that a woman’s place is in the cockpit! \nAbout the Speaker: \nWendy Zielen grew up in upstate New York but became a lifelong Michigander when she met her husband at the University of Michigan. Currently\, she is the Executive and Development Director for Bendix Academy\, a small nonprofit organization in Brighton Michigan that teaches toolmanship through mentorship. Wendy enjoys utilizing her industry expertise to promote worthy youth advocacy\, underserved communities\, environmental sustainability\, and historical preservation causes. She especially enjoys sharing the inspiration for the Willow Run story and Rosie the Riveter’s Can-Do spirit! \nEach monthly tea & talk starts with a catered luncheon\, warm tea\, and a unique presentation over a topic of interest. Reservations are required and are due the Friday before each tea. All Ticket Sales are Final. Tickets are final sale & non-refundable. Handicap accessible facilities. Groups Welcome. \nPrice: $30/Museum Members\, $35/Non-Members\, $35/Gluten Free/Vegan Meal \n  \n
