SUMMARY:Tea & Talk Series: Unnatural Ohio
DESCRIPTION:“Unnatural Ohio” \nAcross city and country\, Ohio echoes with tales of creatures\, ghosts\, and other unexplained phenomena. A monster that appeared to be half man and half dog and wielding a 2-by-4 terrorized a small Northwest Ohio town during the summer of 1972. Over the years\, visitors to a quiet Cincinnati suburb claim to have been accosted by a human-size\, leathery frogman lurking near the riverbank. For generations\, hikers and hunters have reported seeing Bigfoot throughout forests across Ohio\, and some of the most notorious and well-documented UFO encounters on record have taken place here. \nAuthors M. Kristina Smith and Kevin Moore parse urban legends from history as they explore the unnatural side of Ohio’s heritage. \nAbout the Speakers: \nKevin Moore: Kevin has been writing since he was eight years old\, pecking away on his mom’s typewriter. He enjoys reading and writing fiction\, and maybe one day\, he will write the great American novel – but not today. Kevin decided to pivot his life toward studying history professional about 10 years ago and hasn’t looked back since. He now gets to research preserve and share history as the curator of artifacts at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont\, Ohio. He also hosts “Can’t Make This Up: A History Podcast\,” where he gets the privilege of interviewing authors and historians. Kevin lives in Toledo with his family. \nKristina Smith: As a child\, Kristina read every book on the Loch Ness Monster she could find at the. Defiance Public Library. Since then\, she has been interested in cryptids\, the paranormal and unexplained phenomena. As a former investigative reporter and editor\, she spent years asking questions\, digging through public records and researching materials to find the facts behind stories. Today\, she shares the history and stories of the collections\, people and events at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums\, where she has been marketing/communications manager since 2015. She also works as a freelance writer and reporter\, featuring stories about people\, wildlife and places around Ohio. This is her second book. Her first\, “Lost Sandusky\,” was published by The History Press in 2015 \n  \nEach monthly tea & talk starts with a catered luncheon\, warm tea\, and a unique presentation over a topic of interest. Reservations are required and are due the Friday before each tea. All Ticket Sales are Final. Tickets are final sale & non-refundable. Handicap accessible facilities. Groups Welcome. \nPrice: $25/Museum Members\, $30/Non-Members\, $30/Gluten Free/Vegan Meal

SUMMARY:Poor Farm Palooza Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!  Join the Wood County Museum for our annual Poor Farm Palooza Fundraiser!  \nThis year’s theme is a mix of Margaritaville & a Luau (hawaiian shirts are HIGHLY encouraged!) on July 19\, 2024 from 6-9pm.  We are excited to host this summer fundraiser as an in-person event with live music by Cheeseburgers in Paradise\, delicious food by City Barbeque\, a beer tent\, side raffle prizes\, and rolling 50/50 drawing. We will also have an online silent auction. This event is our largest fundraiser for the museum & historical society. \nIn addition to a year full of community welcoming-events\, educational programs\, and family-focused activities\, we will also be doing a lot of planning for 2025. Museum staff will be installing a large World War II exhibit in the Spring of 2025. We are gathering stories from some of the amazing WWII Veterans in the surrounding area\, pulling artifacts from our collections in storage\, and drawing plans for the ‘exhibit set’. This of course means raising additional funds for the construction of the exhibit and the technology that goes with it. This year’s fundraiser will be used in part to help us cover the costs associated with a quality exhibit that weaves many stories and memories from WWII into an enriching experience for visitors. \nPlease help us reach our goal to raise $25\,000 by becoming an event sponsor\, purchasing an event ticket\, and by participating in the auction. \nTickets are $60/member and $65/non-member. Must be 21+ to attend. \nPurchase tickets online or at the door. \nAll-you-can-eat BBQ Food and Drinks are included with the ticket. Catering will be done by City Barbeque. (Vegetarian meal available upon request\, please call the museum to reserve) \nAuction website: 32auctions.com/pfpf24 \n  \nThank you to our event sponsors!\nMargaritaville Sponsors: Edwin & Irma Wolf\, Lynn & Betty Wineland\, Dave & Cindy Hollinger\, Marsh & Rothenbuhler LLC\, Susan & George Winters\,\nParrot Sponsors: Franks Sales\, Inc. Andrew Kalmar & Cathy Zwyer\, Linda Hamilton\, Anonymous\, A.A. Green Realty\, Inc. \, Jary & Roselinde Crandall\nLuau Sponsors: The Copy Shop\, SignGypsies 419\, City Barbeque\, Phipps\, Shevlin\, Hebeka Family Dentistry\, LTD.\n  \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Musical Act\n\nCheeseburgers in Paradise is a group based in the Cleveland area. They are an energetic\, talent-filled\, entertaining show! Cheeseburgers in Paradise plays many of the greatest Jimmy Buffett tunes\, along with other great ‘island\, summer\, beach\, party and dance songs! Tom’s musicianship on acoustic guitar\, electric guitar\, flute\, harmonica and ukulele will amaze\, while the band is rock-solid\, lively and fun to watch!
