The Wood County Museum has been recognized with tw The Wood County Museum has been recognized with two prestigious awards from the Ohio Museums Association (OMA) for its exhibit video, “For Service & Support: Creating an Accessible Community.” The museum received a Gold Visual Communication Award as well as the program’s highest distinction, the Best in Show Visual Communication Award, honoring exceptional creativity in museum digital marketing.

The Best in Show award recognizes outstanding print and digital materials including campaigns, catalogs, and websites across Ohio’s museum community. The dual recognition highlights the Wood County Museum’s commitment to impactful storytelling and innovative audience engagement.

The OMA Awards program is an annual celebration of excellence in visual communications, individual and institutional achievement, and the dedicated work of museum professionals advancing Ohio’s cultural landscape both locally and nationally.

The award-winning exhibit, “For Service & Support: Creating an Accessible Community,” explores the vital role that individuals with developmental and physical disabilities have played in the history of Wood County. Visitors are introduced to the evolution of care and advocacy, from early institutions such as the Ohio Institute for Feeble-Minded Youth and county poor houses, to the development of modern day boards of developmental disabilities.

At the heart of the exhibit is the award winning compelling short film of the same name, which brings these stories to life through historical context and personal narratives from community members who utilize these services today. The video was produced by local videographer and filmmaker, Zak Kolhoff.

Join us TONIGHT April 21st at 6PM for our next Ame Join us TONIGHT April 21st at 6PM for our next America250 Lecture Series talk. April's talk will focus on the America 250-Ohio theme of "Transportation".

Often thought of as simply a road to travel through, U.S. Route 6, known statewide and nationally as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway, is a historic corridor that stretches across northern Ohio, from the Indiana border near Edgerton eastward through Williams, Henry, Wood, Sandusky, Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties to the Pennsylvania line. This presentation invites local history lovers to slow down, stop, and connect by exploring the people and places shaped by this roadway, uncovering surprising historical threads, and rediscovering how Route 6 helped knit Ohio’s communities into the broader tapestry of the American experience. Along the way, national highlights of the route help place Ohio’s story within this larger, coast-to-coast journey.

Cost: FREE for members; $7 for non-members (tickets include a self-guided tour of the museum in addition to the program)
