IT'S BACK AGAIN!!! The WCM Foam Turkey Drop Fundraiser!
"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly"

Here’s how it works:
Purchase a foam turkey for $50 each.
ONLY 300 TURKEYS WILL BE SOLD!
Foam Turkeys can be purchased online at woodcountyhistory.org, at the museum or on location day of the event before the drop (while supplies last).

The six foam turkeys closest to the targets will win prizes!
There will be two targets and two sets of prizes, DOUBLE THE FUN!

PRIZES
2 - 1st Closest to Target: $1,000
2 - 2nd Closest to Target: $750
2- 3rd Closest to Target: $500
and various other non-cash prizes such as frozen turkeys, museum memberships, museum baskets, etc.

Drop will take place approximately around 8:30 AM
You do not have to be present to win.

Drop is limited to 300 Foam Turkeys. Foam Turkeys will be sold up until 8:00am or until sold out.

In the case of inclement weather, the turkey drop will be rescheduled.

#poorfarmfriday - 290 acres of land were purchased in 1852 with the intention of constructing a house for the poor. There were 235 acres of tillable ground. The main infirmary building was a three-story brick structure with 86 total rooms, including 13 rooms for administrative purposes...

Mike McMaster, Education Coordinator, here again with "Did You Know?" This time with a story about: News From Germany… Wood County 1845

Although never officially plotted as a town, the settlement of “Germany” began in 1845 when Dr. Nieblung purchased the abandoned 3 story house of a man named Gwynn. The mysterious Gwynn also tried to start a settlement there named “Gynndale” in 1837 but failed. The “Germany” settlement was described as being 2 miles south of Otsego, in the northwest quarter section of Section 17 Washington Township. However, the 1858 Smith clearly shows “C. Nibelung” at the intersection Dayton & Michigan Railroad and a local road of some consequence in the northeast quarter of Section 18 of Plain Township near Section 7 of Washington Township; a much more logical spot for a settlement. Could this have been the actual location of the Germany settlement? Other German settlers in this area were the families Koch, Miehe, Marx, Just, Bobel, and Marksheifle. A humorous story was written in the Historical Record of Wood County, Ohio, Vol I that some of the “Germany” settlers, being musicians, attempted to amuse a herd of cows near town with their instruments. Their attempt at domestication was greeted by a sudden charge of wild cattle.

Although the settlement of “Germany” was described as being in Section 17, look carefully instead at the intersection of Section 18 Plain Township and Section 7 of Washington Township. Today, this is near Long-Judson Road and where Reams Road turns south from Tuller Road.
